    The following are frequently asked questions about the City Landfill with responses. If you have an additional question please contact the Department at (605) 842-0931.

Q: Is there a charge for hauling debris to the landfill?
    A: Citizens living within the city limits of Winner can haul debris to the landfill free of charge. There is a charge to take tires. Residents outside the city limits of Winner may hauled debris to the landfill but must pay the established fee. See Sanitation ordinance for established fees.

Q: Do I have to cover or secure loads hauled to the landfill?
    A: Yes, the landfill attendant can issue a $10.00 fine if a load of debris is not covered or properly secured. This ordinance is to prevent the littering of the landfill road and public streets.

Q: I have a question about an item I would like to haul to the landfill, who do I call to see if it can be disposed of at the landfill?
    A: Call (605) 842-0931 and the Department Head for Sanitation can answer your question.

Q: Does the City hold an annual clean up week?
    
A: Yes, the City Council sets the dates for the annual clean up. This is normally in the spring and advertisements are placed in the Winner Advocate alerting residents.

Q: Who maintains the road to the landfill?
    A:
The gravel road to the landfill is not a City road but as a service to those citizens that use the road the city does blade it to keep it as smooth as possible. This is normally done after a rainfall.

Q: I would like to speak with those responsible for picking up my garbage, whom do I call?
    A:
Heartland Waste Management is responsible for collecting all residential and commercial garbage in Winner. If you have questions about your service please call them at (605) 842-3692. You may also want to visit the ordinance section of the WEBB site to review how residential and commercial rates are established.
